Moulin Rouge Set Design
Preface
Moulin Rouge! is a 2001 musical film set in Paris at the turn of the twentieth century. The story follows an English poet who falls in love with a celebrated performer at the Moulin Rouge, the iconic cabaret known for its theatricality, spectacle, and vibrant nightlife.
This set design project draws inspiration from the film’s dramatic visual language and the historical atmosphere of the Moulin Rouge. Located at 82 Boulevard de Clichy in Paris, France, the venue serves as a cultural and architectural reference point for exploring themes of romance, performance, decadence, and illusion.
Concept
The concept of my design is to provide enough space for visitors to enjoy the show and the atmosphere. By dividing the interior space into three sections, it allows the audience from every floor see the stage clearly, and also provides enough space for the performers to have their showcase. Besides, it also brings visitors from the modern world back to the 90s.
